CURRICULUM

Elementary School Curriculum

Faithful to Catholic education tradition, our elementary school curriculum strives to ensure the development of strong academic skills, creative abilities, a sense of community and social responsibility. The foundation for academic achievement begins in elementary school, where students learn to challenge themselves and grow in understanding of their own potential. Increasingly, classroom instruction introduces students to the skills of independent thinking, cooperation, and decision making. As children develop these tools, they engage with their fellow students to process new concepts. Creative classroom projects and homework assignments develop students' cognitive, social, and physical abilities while focusing on essential reading, writing, science, and math skills. The underlying goal of all activities in lower school is to nurture a passion for learning, to instill the value of a broad education, and to prepare students to excel in middle school and beyond.

Middle School Curriculum

The middle school curriculum is designed to stimulate students' natural curiosity, and their need to explore and question within a safe and caring Catholic environment. One of the primary strengths of an education at Springfield Catholic Schools is the close relationships that develop between the faculty and the students. The middle school academic program is structured as a gradual, increasingly rigorous progression where students are fully prepared for a successful transition to high school. The curriculum is traditional with an emphasis on reading, religion, writing, math, and study skills. This provides our students with the material and activity necessary for the maturation of critical thinking skills and the formation of good study habits.

High School Curriculum

Our small size combined with our rigorous dedication to academic excellence creates a vibrant learning environment. Our high school curriculum is grounded in the traditional disciplines of, English, Mathematics, Foreign Language, Science, History, Theology, Visual and Performing Arts. We are committed to teaching students how to be critical thinkers and effective writers.

Beginning in the ninth grade, students are exposed to a challenging array of core academic subjects. Teachers stress their respective disciplines, and emphasize the essential skills of time management, organization, note taking and writing. In the sophomore and junior years, students are challenged by an increasingly more demanding workload as well as by Advance Placement courses. Senior year is the culminating moment in a student's education at Springfield Catholic High School. It is an intense year as individuals are typically focused on the college selection process.

Additionally, there are a variety of opportunities to develop responsibility and leadership. One of these opportunities is the commitment to community service. Furthermore, our athletic teams and extra-curricular clubs also provide rewarding ways for students to develop their talents and interests. In short, throughout the academic experience at Springfield Catholic Schools, we stress participation, hard work, responsibility, and creativity.
